OTB Engineering Ltd developed a geotechnical design report and concept design for 14 priority trenchless crossings for the HyNet CO2 Pipeline project. These crossings were critical for ensuring optimal route alignment and supporting HyNet's Development Consent Order (DCO) application and OTB's work was essential in addressing the technical challenges posed by the crossings. OTB's design work focused on selecting the most appropriate crossing methodologies, considering ground conditions, constructability, and constraints posed by statutory consultees such as Network Rail, Highways England, and Natural Resources Wales.
By focusing on the most technically difficult and time-sensitive sections, OTB’s contributions were pivotal in overcoming obstacles and advancing the project’s development.
HyNet is the UK’s leading industrial decarbonisation project, led by ENI UK. It aims to produce, transport, and store low-carbon hydrogen in the Northwest of England and North Wales while capturing and permanently storing industrial carbon dioxide emissions. The project will create and safeguard jobs, grow a regional skills base, and attract investment.
As part of its infrastructure development, HyNet will construct underground pipelines, hydrogen plants, and storage facilities. OTB Engineering was engaged by Progressive Energy for our technical expertise in designing trenchless crossings and our understanding of physical and statutory constraints to help ensure an efficient and optimised route is developed for construction.
