OTB Engineering was appointed advisor to GM Partners (Manchester City Council and Transport for Greater Manchester) to assist in its planning concerning new rail infrastructure. The team was selected due to its extensive experience in rail infrastructure and hard rock tunnelling and excavation. The role encompassed reviewing the proposed options for creating a new surface station at Manchester Piccadilly.

OTB advised on an alternative option of constructing an underground station, producing a concept design with commentary on constructability. In addition, OTB provided expert witness advice regarding the proposed station, presenting the underground solution to the UK House of Commons Transport Select Committee.
