Fission Uranium Corp. are currently progressing designs for a proposed new underground Uranium mine development at Patterson Lake South (PLS), north-western Saskatchewan, Canada. On behalf of Shaft and Tunnel Consulting Services, OTB Engineering provided tunnelling expertise and advise to the client as well as design assurance support throughout the Basic Engineering Design phase, leading into the Detailed Design phase.
A core part of OTB Engineering’s service has been to review and comment on the feasibility studies, basic engineering design drawings, and extensive geotechnical investigations conducted to date. The aim is to steer the design of the decline tunnel development towards a more optimised solution. OTB has also collaborated closely with the client, S&TCC, and external consultants. Together, we have delivered detailed trade-off studies for various tunnel construction methodologies to identify potential efficiencies and programme improvements.
Once constructed, the decline tunnel will provide long term access to the new mine development at Patterson Lake South, which is estimated to hold significant reserves of ‘triple R’ grade uranium that will contribute to low carbon electricity generation around the world.
