Shap Pink quarry is located approximately 20 mile south of Penrith, Cumbria. Located within the bounds of the Shap Pluton (an igneous intrusion which is between 398 and 416 million years old), the quarry is surrounded by wide and glaciated valleys. It was excavated into the south side of a northeast and southwest orientated valley, which exposed the underlying granite bedrock. The quarry has recently become fully active again after a period of sporadic use.
OTB were commissioned to appraise the excavations, tips and lagoons at Shap Pink Quarry. Working under the terms of the Quarry Regulations (1999), our engineering geologists inspected the site and assessed the condition of the excavations, tips and lagoons.
