The Knightsbridge Station SFA Civils Works project was an essential component of the station's upgrade to enhance accessibility and functionality. Spanning from 2018 to 2021, the project involved the design and construction of critical infrastructure elements, including lift shafts and cross passages. These improvements were part of Transport for London’s (TfL) efforts to modernise the station while maintaining operational safety and efficiency.

One of the key challenges was the integration of new structures within a complex urban environment, which included managing the interface with existing London Underground (LU) assets. OTB Engineering played a pivotal role in delivering advanced permanent works and temporary works solutions to ensure the stability and safety of the station throughout construction. Timber headings and reinforced concrete works were employed to meet the structural demands of the project, showcasing expertise in both design and execution.

The project also prioritised safe load assessments and detailed risk management, including the mitigation of potential hazards such as deformation of existing platform tunnels and the challenges posed by noise, vibration, and the installation of large steel beams. Instrumentation and monitoring plans were rigorously implemented to manage and mitigate risks effectively, ensuring minimal disruption to the surrounding area.

Sustainability was a key focus, with careful consideration given to reducing the project's carbon footprint. Although this project was classified as business as usual, it exemplified OTB Engineering’s commitment to delivering transport infrastructure projects that balance innovation, safety, and sustainability. By leveraging expertise in tunnel, construction, and geotechnical engineering, OTB Engineering contributed to TfL's goal of creating a more efficient and accessible transport network.
